“NNP—Nurturing the Nursing Profession is on a mission and asks:
“How has your life been touched by a nurse?”
Here is an opportunity to show your appreciation and support!
Nurturing the Nursing Profession (NNP) thanks attendees, sponsors, volunteers and everyone who helped make its second annual community event possible. The free community event was held May 2, 2010, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Columbus State Community College Center for Workforce Development.
The afternoon featured speakers sharing valuable healthcare information and free CEs for nurses, health and wellness product demonstrations, a silent auction, food, and professional development and networking opportunities. The purpose of this event was to connect nursing students, nursing educators, current nurses, and our community for a day of professional development, encouragement, celebration, appreciation and discovery.
Proceeds raised throughout the day will fund scholarships and endowments for nursing students at Columbus State Community College of Nursing and The Ohio State University College of Nursing. The NNP plans to expand fundraising events in future years to fund scholarships for other nursing colleges and universities in our state. Long-term goals include replicating this event in states around the country.
The NNP would like to extend a special thank you to speakers: Jan Lanier, RN, JD, Deputy Executive Officer of The Ohio Nurses Association, who presented on “TLC: Can Caring Too Much Lead to Board of Nursing Disciplinary Action” andBarbara T. Duane, JD, MSN, RN, Director of Capital Nursing Accelerated Program, who spoke about “To Document and What to Document….These are the Questions and Many More.”
Please submit your favorite nursing stories for our WALL OF APPRECIATION by emailing them to enlightensenses@aol.com.
In between events, the NNP continues raise awareness and funds for the future of nursing. America has a national nursing shortage which may continue to escalate into a crisis level. Currently, most practicing nurses are “baby boomers” who will be retiring over the next decade—leaving the medical field with an even greater shortage as our population ages and needs nurses more than ever. The mission of NNP is to bring the national Nursing shortage to everyone's attention; show appreciation to our past, present, and future nurses; and raise money to fund scholarships and endowments.
We can all make a difference—and a little can go a long way in honoring our nurses. I am respectfully asking everyone to donate $1.00 and forward our message to five other people you know. All proceeds will fund Columbus State Community College of Nursing and The Ohio State College of Nursing. Together we can help future nurses as the NNP goal is to fund new nursing colleges’ endowments and scholarships each year.
Let’s invest in the future of this time-honored profession. Together we can educate, empower, inspire and support our present and future nurses!
