What is Natural?

The definition of "Natural “is important. It means that the ingredients used are derived from materials accruing in nature, not from a laboratory. It is about staying as close to the original as possible. The definition of “Organic” simply means the materials are grown without pesticides, toxic fungicides, insecticides, herbicides, and without the use of chemical preservatives. It means no disingenuous claims, and no testing on animals. It means having an honest relationship between producer and consumer. It means sourcing, formulating, packaging, and reusing or safely disposing of what is left.

The labeling of “Natural” and “Organic “products can be confusing for some consumers. The big companies know that the natural organic products market is growing every year and consumers are demanding a healthier life style and environment. Synthetic ingredients can be toxic, and usually cost less than natural ingredients, giving the mass-marketed multinational corporations a competitive advantage. Take a look at the supermarket shelves and you will see the multitude of "natural" claims. With all of the misleading claims out there, how does one get consumers to realize these Organic products are really natural? Consumers should carefully read product labels including ingredient lists and then choose for their definition of natural with their buying power.

There are many un-natural products. The following are some of the common ones: Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), Isopropyl Alcohol, Methyl, ethyl, butyl, or propyl parabens, TEA, DEA, and, MEA, Petrolatums and petroleum derivitives, Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC). Some companies will include a trace of truly natural ingredients in a product with some of the synthetic ingredients above and claim the product is natural. This belies the entire purpose of using natural products.
